The Sailfish started slow in each of the first two sets before finally starting well in sets three and four. In the second the ‘Fish were down 14-8 and never were able to string together more than two points in a row in dropping their only set of the night.
PBA came out strong in the third as Olivia Finckel picked up five kills as the ‘Fish took a 15-8 lead. The freshman finished the match with eight kills on 24 swings and also added four blocks. The Bucs made things interesting by winning nine of 11 points to even the set at 17-17. Eventually the ‘Fish got back-to-back blocks by Emma Ballantyne, one with Molly Burkardt and one with Rohn that broke a 25-25 tie and gave the ‘Fish the upper hand in the match.
In the fourth the Sailfish finally were able to create some distance, jumping out to a 9-5 lead and later scoring six straight to push the lead out to 21-10, eventually taking the match on a kill by Sarah Ragland.
Burkhardt led the offense with 37 assists and added eight digs, one block and five kills. The Sailfish added 14 assists in addition to Burkhardt’s with Rohn picking up five of those. Overall, six players recorded at least two assists.
The Sailfish put pressure on Barry with their serve all night long, collecting eight aces with Katie Ballantyne leading the way with three. Amy Schatzmann added two aces to go along with six digs. Susie Forbes added 11 digs to join Rohn in double digits.
The Sailfish have won 25 straight inside Rubin Arena dating back to 2014 and have won 11 in a row against Barry. PBA will hit the road this weekend, travelling to No. 24 Florida Southern on Friday and Eckerd on Saturday.
