MELBOURNE, Fla.- Limited to only one hit in the double-header opener against Florida Tech on Tuesday afternoon, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team wasted yet another solid outing by pitcher Ashley Jones in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Panthers.

FIT hurler Amanda West did her job in the pitching circle against the Sailfish as the right-hander fanned seven batters while posting her second shutout of the season as FIT avenged a loss to PBA in their last time out, the final game of the Eckerd Spring Invitational over this past weekend.

Center-fielder Casey Gibson (Cape Coral, Fla.) tallied the only hit for the Fish as she came through with an infield single in the sixth inning.

Jones (4-3) nearly matched West pitch-for-pitch on the PBA side as the sophomore right-hander allowed five FIT hits, one earned run and struck out three.

The Panthers scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sarah Oram connected for a leadoff triple and came around to score later on a suicide squeeze up the first-base line by Mick Grahm, brining around the only run of the game.
