Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Regional

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Sailfish women’s tennis team competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Regional Tournament over the weekend, hosted by Florida Southern.

The Sailfish had two singles players win their opening match along with the doubles team of Taylor Conti and Leoni Polzin. Maja Jovic and Michala Burns advanced to the consolation finals of the women’s doubles draw after being knocked off in the first round.

Conti and Polzin won their first match of doubles play, 9-7, over Maria Turillo and Georgina Wood from Embry-Riddle. In singles play it was Conti and Jovic that advanced into the second round as Jovic won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Conti took the opening set 6-2 before falling 6-4 in the second but she bounced back to win the third 10-8. Both Conti and Jovic went on to lose to seeded players in the next round.

The Sailfish are back in action on Oct. 7-9 at the C.L. Varner Invitational hosted by Rollins College.
