Sailfish Place Two in Top-15, Take 6th in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s cross country team placed 6th out of 16 teams at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, improving from a 16th place out of 21 teams finish a year ago.

For the third straight meet it was freshman Cami Rickenbach leading the way for the Sailfish, placing 6th overall with a time of 18:41.85 on the 5K course. Her time was 11 seconds faster than her last race this season and is the best so far on the team this year.

Sara Caitrin-Mandelburg ran a season-best 19:08.58 to finish 15th out of the field of 144 runners in the non-Division I portion of the meet. In addition to the 16 non-Division 1 teams there were 13 teams in the Division 1 portion and 122 additional runners on the course at the same time.

Jessica Lykins led a pack of three Sailfish across the finish line, finishing in 21:37.08 followed by Madison Troyer and Sophia Miller, both within 13 seconds of Lykins. Hope Kanagy (22:19) led the next group through the finish and was followed by Rhian Romanik (22:36), Elise Combs (22:42) and Alyssa Hearing (22:54).

The ‘Fish will race again on Friday, Sept. 30 at the Floridarunners.com Invitational in Titusville.
