BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team recorded their first win in a Sunshine State Conference match in program history on Wednesday, as the Sailfish defeated Palm Beach County rival Lynn University 1-0 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
The match started out slow, but in the 17th minute Morgan Campbell broke away from the Knight defense only to have her shot saved by a diving Alexa Downie. Lynn had a great scoring chance of their own in the 24th minute, but Isabelle Granlund sprawled out to make the save to keep the match scoreless.
Both teams only recorded two shots in a first half dominated by defense as Granlund and Downie made two saves apiece.
It was the 51st minute where Palm Beach Atlantic got on the scoreboard, as a Campbell cross was sent into the net by a Fighting Knight defender, giving the Sailfish a lead they held on to the rest of the way.
It was the third clean sheet in a row for the Sailfish defense. Karina White, Bridget Wollrabe, Stephanie D'Cruz, Kayla Fisher, and Kianna Magner all played the full 90 minutes on a hot and humid evening at Bobby Campbell Stadium.
The Sailfish will be back in action Saturday, when they travel to Florida Southern College for a 7 p.m. SSC match. The Mocs are 0-1 in conference play after losing to Nova Southeastern tonight.
