Hays' 72 Leads 'Fish in Georgia, Rain Cancels Final Round

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Palm Beach Atlantic women's golf finished third in their first tournament of the 2016-17 season after sophomore Victoria Hays led the team on Monday with a even par 72. The second round was scheduled for Tuesday morning but after inclement weather in the area the teams were not able to finish the round and tournament officials cancelled the round.
The Sailfish shot 311 pm on Monday and finished tied with South Carolina-Beaufort. Faulkner University won the event, 12 strokes ahead of the ‘Fish and Sand Sharks while Milligan College finished second at 309.
Hays’ even-par 72 matches her career best as a Sailfish which she set back in March of the 2015-16 season. Franzi Knoetsch from South Carolina-Beaufort was the individaul medalist with a one-under 71. Anna Reid from Faulkner also shot even-par and finished tied with Hays.
Not far behind Hays on the leaderboard were Taylor Heinz and Katie Humphreys who shot 77 and 78 respectively. Heinz finished tie for 12th as Humphreys was 17th. Humphreys’ 78 marks the best round in her career with the Sailfish, as her previous best was 83.
Taylor Sukmana, competing in her first event with PBA, shot 84 as Tracy Peyton finished with an 87.
The teams were able to compete about five holes before being pulled off the course on Tuesday and subsequently played again until rain made the course unplayable. With thunderstorms forecasted for the rest of the day the second round was cancelled and the scores were wiped away.
The Sailfish are back in action on Sept. 17-18 as they travel to Daytona Beach for the Lady Falcon Invitational hosted by Daytona State College.
