Volleyball Bounces Back to Sweep Lee, No. 17 Ferris State

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 19 Palm Beach Atlantic had a significantly different start to this weekend than the last, sweeping both Lee and No. 17 Ferris State on the first day of the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach on Friday night.

The Sailfish came to life at home in Rubin Arena, hitting .362 against Lee and following that up with a .220 performance and nine total blocks against the Bulldogs. Bob White’s squad will be back on the court on Saturday at 3 p.m. to take on No. 10 Washburn and will follow that up with the tournament finale at 7:30 p.m. against Bridgeport.

PBA 3, Lee 0
PBA hit .333 in the first set and .448 in the second en route to their first victory of the season. Ally Rohn paced the offense with 15 kills and a .556 attack while Molly Burkhardt set up the offense with 28 assists. Burkhardt added four kills and five digs in the match while Rohn also collected five digs.

The Sailfish had 20 more kills in the match than the Flames, winning in straight sets 25-15, 25-14, 25-14. Middle hitters Sarah Ragland and Emma Ballantyne combined for 15 kills and zero errors on 22 attacks with Ragland adding four block assists. Susie Forbes led the defense with eight digs as the ‘Fish held Lee to a .043 attack.

PBA 3, Ferris State 0
Ally Rohn again led the team in kills with 12 as the ‘Fish secured their second straight win, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 over the Bulldogs of Ferris State. Rohn added 14 digs, two blocks and four assists. The offense hit .220 for the match but the defense again held down their opponent as Ferris State hit just .123 for the match.

Molly Burkhardt led PBA with 15 digs and also set up the attack with 30 assists. She collected two blocks and six kills as well. The middle tandem of Ballantyne and Ragland again were virtually unstoppable as Ragland had seven kills and Ballantyne five. Both players hit over .400 in the match. Ragland also added a team-high five blocks as the Sailfish collected nine total on the night.

Susie Forbes added 11 digs with Amy Schatzmann collecting eight and five assists. Olivia Finckel notched six kills with Sophie Hoekstra adding five of her own and a pair of blocks.
