BOCA RATON, Fla.- In a rematch of last year's heartbreaking defeat in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, Palm Beach Atlantic (1-2) fell 5-2 to the No. 1 Pfeiffer Falcons (3-0) Friday afternoon on the campus of Lynn University. With the loss, it is the first time the ‘Fish have dropped two in a row since October of 2014.
Trailing 1-0 early, newcomer Felipe Clavijo scored on a Falcons’ defensive miscue inside the box to tie things up in the 16th minute of play. Pfeiffer would connect twice more in the opening half, taking a 3-1 lead into the half.
Following a Falcons’ yellow card in the 61st minute, Charlie Dennis ripped a free kick from about 30 yards out to bring the ‘Fish within a goal,3-2. This would be the closest the Sailfish got to tying things up as the Falcons scored two more unanswered goals to end the game 5-2.
The Sailfish look to shake off the loss to the defending National Champions this Sunday, as PBA takes on Spring Hill College at 1 p.m. at Bobby Campbell Field on the campus of Lynn University to wrap up their four-game season-opening road trip. The Sailfish will play their first match at the Rinker Athletic Campus on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 14 against cross-county rivals Lynn University, with the match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
