DAVIE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team lost a tough match to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday night by a 1-0 final score. The match was scoreless until the 82nd minute when a Gabriela Alfaro shot found the back of the net to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
The Sailfish and Sharks traded scoring chances in the first half, with both goalies making impressive saves as Alexis Sanquist and Ida Norstrom both finished with three saves in the period. The best scoring chance of the half came on a Shannon Berg free kick in the 25th minute as Berg sent the ball flying toward the corner of the net but Norstrom leaped and made the save.
The second half was much of the same, with the keepers making three saves apiece. Nova Southeastern began pouring in the shot attempts late, but Sanquist in net and a strong attempt from the Sailfish defenders blocking shots kept the Sharks off the scoreboard until the 82nd minute goal.
The Sailfish will be off until Friday, when they will return home to the Rinker Athletic Campus to take on Newberry College at 7 p.m. The ‘Fish will also host Johnson & Wales University on Sunday, Sept. 11 for an early 2 p.m. kickoff.
