WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team fell by a 3-1 count to Pace University after a two hour and 17 minute rain delay at the Rinker Athletic Campus Saturday evening. The Setters scored three unanswered goals in the final 60 minutes of the game despite being outshot by the ‘Fish 13-10. The loss drops PBA to 1-1 on the season while Pace improves to 2-0.
The first half was played very even as Pace out-shot PBA by a 6-5 count. The Sailfish got on the scoreboard first as freshman Kylee Rullo recorded her first goal as a Sailfish on a beautiful header into the corner of the net off a free kick played into the box by sophomore Shannon Berg. Pace added a header goal of their own in the 32nd minute off a free kick to tie the score at one goal apiece.
The difference in the first 45 minutes was a penalty kick goal that the Setters added in the 34th minute after a Sailfish foul in the box.
The second half was very similar as the only goal came on a free kick by Drew Ribadeneyra from Pace in the 61st minute. The Sailfish were on the attack late, but Setter keeper Aisha Chauhan was tough in net, making seven saves and allowing just the goal to Rullo.
The freshman Rullo tallied five shots in the contest, three of which were on goal. Berg finished with four shots as Lisa Caprara added two herself. The game was played very physical as 24 total fouls were issued.
The Sailfish will return to action on Tuesday as they travel south to Davie, Fla. to take on Nova Southeastern University in a non-conference match beginning at 7 p.m.
