Sailfish Upended Twice on Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball was unable to capitalize on early momentum in both matches at the Lewis University Flyer Festival on Friday, losing to No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State 3-1 and also to Augustana (S.D.) 3-1.

The Sailfish return home to host the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach on Sept. 9-10. PBA will play both days at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with the first match against Lee University.

No. 4 SW Minnesota State 3, No. 3 PBA 1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-16, 25-18)
Freshman Olivia Finckel and sophomore Ally Rohn each collected 12 kills but the ‘Fish couldn’t rally in losing their second straight. Rohn hit .160 and Finckel .148 as the team hit just .140 for the match. In the second set the ‘Fish hit .333 with 12 kills and only three errors but struggled in the other three sets.

Both Molly Burkhardt and Beth Muhlenkamp had 15 assissts in the match with Burkhardt adding seven digs and Muhlenkamp adding six. Susie Forbes led the team with 14 digs as Rohn posted 12 for her first double-double of the season. Sarah Ragland and Maddie Span each had three block assists with Span also collecting a solo block.

Augustana 3, No. 3 PBA 1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20)
PBA took the opening set 25-23 but couldn’t use that to pick up their first win of the season, falling to 0-3 after the opening weekend.

Ragland came alive offensively for the first time this season with 16 kills and a .355 attack percentage. She added six block assists and two solo blocks. Rohn added 15 kills and 13 digs for her second straight double-double.

The team hit .186 but Augustana hit .311 in the match including .429 in the second set. Susie Forbes led PBA with 26 digs as Burkhardt put up 14 digs and 26 assists. Muhlenkamp added 20 assists of her own.
