WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Head coach Kent Bottenfield and the Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team traveled to Costa Rica this past week, as they partnered with High Performance Sports of Coronado to provide baseball clinics for youth in Santo Domingo.
The clinics provided by Palm Beach Atlantic baseball and HPS were held at local baseball and soccer fields, as the Sailfish players and coaches taught fundamentals and rules of the game to the children. The Sailfish players also facilitated games and competitions for the kids to participate in with over 200 in attendance.
“I think it's safe to say the experience in Costa Rica will stick with our players for the rest of their lives,” said Bottenfield. “I don't know if I've ever seen a group so fully engaged in the lives of others for six straight days. The care and concern they have for one another spilled over into the lives of the children, as well as adults we came in contact with through baseball clinics and games. I was certainly proud to be a part of that group of young men and the impact they made.”
While in Costa Rica, the Sailfish team also competed in two competitions against local baseball teams in Santo Domingo.
“Our trip to Costa Rica was an awesome experience,” said junior outfielder Eddie Vicinanza. “It was so cool to teach the kids a game we love so much and a game they know so little about. This was definitely an experience I will never forget.”
