WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic head softball coach Kimmy Bloemers has announced Mackenzie Huhn as a member of the coaching staff for the upcoming season. Huhn will be serving as the team’s pitching coach.
A four-year letter winner at the University of Central Florida, Huhn finished with a 2.49 career ERA. The southpaw contributed to Knights history as she pitched the seventh inning of the first combined no-hitter in UCF history during her sophomore year against Iona. As a junior in 2015, Huhn did not allow a single run in any of her outings, helping the Knights win back to back American Athletic Conference regular season championships in 2014 and 2015. Huhn also graduated tied for fifth all-time in UCF history for career combined shutouts.
“Having Mackenzie Huhn on our staff will make an immediate impact for the Sailfish softball pitching staff,” Bloemers said. “I remember watching her as a dominant pitcher in this area and I love that she now can give back to her hometown. I am confident that her wealth of knowledge and UCF background will help guide this Sailfish softball pitching staff to great success.”
A Palm Beach County native, Huhn grew up in North Palm Beach and played softball at William T. Dwyer High School, earning varsity letters in all four years. The lefty helped head coach Joe Bellarocca to the 5A regional finals her freshman year, and was named most improved player her sophomore season as she led the Panthers to a district championship. She accomplished these feats while also being honored with a National Merit Award that same season.
