Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Programs
When will men’s and women’s LAX become a varsity sport?
Men’s and women’s lacrosse will become varsity sports in the Fall 2017 with the first segment of championship competition in Spring 2018.
Who sponsor’s LAX in the Sunshine State Conference?
Tampa, Florida Tech, Lynn, Florida Southern, Rollins, Saint Leo
If I play on the club team for LAX, will those years count toward my NCAA eligibility?
No, club participation does not use a year of eligibility.
When will the coach be hired?
Stephen Tempone was named the varsity men’s lacrosse coach on Aug. 1. The hiring process for the varsity women’s head coach is currently underway.
What will the recruiting process look like?
The head coaches will handle all recruiting. An open try out may be held. Interested PSAs should contact the head coach and complete the necessary NCAA Eligibility Center process.
If I am currently on the club team, will I automatically make the varsity DII team?
No, the new head coaches will be tasked with evaluating the current members of the club team. If student athletes are interested in playing varsity, they should contact the head coach and follow the NCAA Eligibility Center instructions. Are there athletic scholarships available for LAX?
No, athletic scholarships will not be available for LAX in the initial year of the program.
If I am not eligible for athletic aid, what types of financial aid can I receive from the university?
Men’s and Women’s LAX student athletes can receive all institutional financial that is offered to non-student-athletes. This includes institutional need based aid, endowments scholarships and academic financial aid. Other state and federal government aid may also be applied.
How many student athletes will be on a roster?
Approximately 30-35 men and 25-30 women. The head coach in consultation with the Athletic Director will determine roster size.
Are student athletes guaranteed housing?
No, student athletes are not guaranteed housing and they are also held to the same housing regulations as non-student athletes.
Do varsity LAX student athletes receive treatment in the athletic training room?
Do varsity LAX student athletes have access to strength and conditioning coaches?
Are students who enroll at PBA for the 2016-17 academic year required to pay LAX dues?
Yes. Dues will be collected for 2016-2017.
When will PBA be full members of the SSC?
July 1, 2017 if all conference requirements are met.

If I am currently in the PBA club team and I am interested in joining the varsity team, how should I prepare my academic eligibility?
Freshmen and sophomores:
- Must pass at least 9 credit hours per regular Full Time term/s (Fall and/or Spring)
- Must pass at least 18 credit hours per regular full academic year (Fall and Spring)
- Must pass at least 24 credit hours per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
- Must maintain at least 2.0 GPA
Juniors and seniors:
- Must designate a major (Starting Junior year)
- Must pass at least 9 credit hours towards a degree per regular Full Time term/s (Fall and/or Spring)
- Must pass at least 18 credit hours towards a degree per regular full academic year (Fall and Spring)
- Must pass at least 24 credit hours towards a degree per year (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
- Must maintain at least 2.0 GPA
