FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.- Despite a trio of homeruns, the Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team was unable to come away with a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) regional championship and advance to the national tournament later this month as the Sailfish fell on Friday afternoon by a final tally of 12-9 to Chowan University.
In a rematch of their first-round contest against Chowan which witnessed the Sailfish come away with an exciting 6-5 victory, the Sailfish pitching staff was unable to hold back their opponent enough as Chowan plated 12 runs on 13 hits including a huge six-run third inning that put the game out of reach early.
The Sailfish wouldn’t quit however. PBA plated a total of eight runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to get the game closer but they were unable to come away with the victory.
Outfielder Nick Norley paced the Sailfish offensive attack with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate while tallying a double and two runs scored. Shortstop Billy Falconio and Scott Urbanek also put together solid showings overall as they each totaled two hits while scoring a run.
Joaquin Valdes, Joshua Santos, and Jesse Gibbs, all connected for homeruns in what turned out to be the final game of the season for the Sailfish.
Freshman hurler Taylor McBath took the loss on the mound as the tall right-hander was charged with eight runs in 2 1/3 innings of work.
