Johnson Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America 1st Team

Written By: TJ Budd, Sports Information Director

AUSTIN, Texas – Palm Beach Atlantic’s Amber Johnson became the first softball player in school history named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America 1st team on Wednesday. The four-year Sailfish was named an all-district winner along with Kayla Knight earlier this year.

Johnson – a native of Royal Palm Beach, Fla. – graduated with a perfect 4.00 GPA in biology (pre-health prep) during her four years in the Blue and White. She wasn’t bad on the diamond either, setting the school record with 13 saves during her career. She posted a 15-1 record during her senior season and also collected five saves. She had a 1.96 ERA in 110.2 innings.

During her career, Johnson won 49 times and tossed nearly 400 innings with 310 strikeouts and a 3.14 ERA. She also holds the single season saves record, breaking her own record this year. She helped lead PBA to the NCAA South Region Tournament in 2014 with a team-leading 1.80 ERA and a 17-9 record that year. She is planning on attending the University of Florida College of Dentistry this fall.

Johnson is the third PBA student-athlete to be named an All-American by CoSIDA this year, joining Faith Rohn (volleyball) and Jermaine Metz (men's soccer).

Senior pitcher Carley Tysinger of Catawba College was named the Academic All-America of the Year award for Division II softball.

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
