Sailfish Fall in Opener to No. 3/4 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball was outmatched by No. 3/4 Tampa on Friday night in the first of a three-game series, falling 19-4 to the Spartans.
PBA (19-25) got on the board in the fourth inning as Noah Johnson knocked in Mac Hessney with a sacrifice fly. Hessney added a run-scoring single in the fifth as Kyle Simon crossed the plate. Simon reached on an error earlier in the inning as Bobby Brennan was able to score on the play. Hessney finished the game with two hits including a double.
The Sailfish collected nine hits in the game, led by Robert Campo’s and Jorge Bravo’s three each. Bravo connected on his first homer of the season in the ninth. Brennan and Kevin Fy each collected one hit in the game.
Tampa (34-7) scored early and often, putting up three in the in first and two in the second before a big nine-run fourth. They added two more in the sixth and three in the eighth.
Eric Russell (0-4) takes the loss for PBA after pitching three innings and allowing seven runs. Christopher Williams (8-2) picked up the win for the Spartans, going five innings and allowing three runs, one earned with seven hits. He struck out eight.
