ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team dropped an extra inning contest with Eckerd College Friday evening, as a Sailfish error lead to the Tritons walking-off in the 10th inning, 5-4.
The loss overshadows an excellent start by Sailfish senior Eric Russell. The righty pitched into the eighth inning Friday night, striking out 10 Triton batters, allowing only four runs to score, all of which came in the first four innings of the ballgame.
Dominic Monda takes the tough-luck loss on the evening, falling to 6-2 on the year. Monda allowed two hits and no earned runs in his two innings of work.
The Sailfish took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a couple of Triton errors. Jake Summey reached on an error by the right fielder and came around to score on an error on a Sean Visconti ground ball.
After a three run Triton third inning, the Sailfish answered in a big way as Kyle Simon blasted a three-run home run to left field, his team-leading sixth of the season.
The Tritons answered with a run in the fourth inning, and the game remained tied at four until the deciding run in the 10th inning.
The two teams are back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader, beginning at noon to decide the series.
