Sailfish Start Series Shutting Out Sharks

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic picked up their 26th win on the year as the Sailfish shutout the Nova Southeastern University Sharks 9-0 in a six inning condensed game Friday night. The ‘Fish put together 11 hits with three Sailfish having multiple hit nights, and four ‘Fish finishing with a pair of RBIs.
The ‘Fish struck first in the top of the third inning as sophomore first baseman Ali French singled home a pair of Sailfish. Theresa Butler followed up with a RBI double giving Palm Beach Atlantic a 3-0 lead.
The Blue and White added six runs over the next three innings, plating a pair of runs in each fixture. In the fourth, PBA scored their two runs courtesy of a Maddie Bertisch fielder’s choice and Brianna Rano later coming in on a wild pitch.
In the fifth inning Kayla Knight tripled on a 1-0 pitch to right field, bringing in S.J. Collier and Devin Williams. The ‘Fish added their final two runs of the game in the top of the sixth inning when Loren Kilgore ripped a 1-2 pitch for a double to right center, driving in Victoria Gonzalez and French for the eight and ninth runs on the night.
In the circle for the Sailfish, Amber Johnson (W, 11-1) pitched four scoreless innings, striking out three Sharks while allowing four hits. Nikki Brinegar closed out the game, allowing just one hit and one walk in the final two innings.
With her single in the first inning, Bertisch picked up her 50th base hit on her freshman season. Collier picked up a pinch-hit single in the top of the fifth inning, giving the junior her first hit since returning from her injury on February 6.
The ‘Fish return to Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow, Saturday April 9 to finish their series with the Sharks. First pitch of tomorrow’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
