WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Not many things went favor of the Sailfish Monday night, as the Palm Beach Atlantic softball (24-14) team fell to the Rollins College Tars (28-6-1) by a final score of 5-0 at Simpson Field.
The Sailfish offense were held to only five hits on the evening, with Maddie Bertisch, Ali French, Victoria Gonzalez, Theresa Butler, and Brianna Skipper each picking up a hit.
The Tars, serving as the home team in the series due to the home location being switched from Winter Park to Simpson Field in an agreement made earlier in the year, scored five runs on the night, getting one in the bottom of the first, three in the bottom of the third, and their final run in the bottom of the fourth.
Rollins’ first baseman Hailee Keisling led off the bottom of the first with an inside-the-park home run, setting the tone early for both teams.
After the home run, the Tars only managed five more hits in the game, but three of those hits came in a row in the third, resulting in three runs.
One bright side for the ‘Fish, senior Amber Johnson pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief against the Tars, not allowing a single base runner in her appearance.
The Sailfish have to erase Monday night’s loss from their memory as they take on Rollins for two more tomorrow, Tuesday April 5, starting at 2 p.m. at Simpson Field.
