No. 38 Sailfish Lose Nail Biter to No. 40 Mocs

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 38 Palm Beach Atlantic fell just short on Saturday against No. 40 Florida Southern, falling to the Mocs 5-4.
The Sailfish fell behind 2-1 after doubles action and were down 4-2 after the first three singles flights completed but rallied to even the match at 4-4 before the Mocs pulled out the win in three sets to take the match.
Valerie Nagovitcina and Maja Jovic were the lone winners in doubles, winning at the top flight in a tiebreak, 9-8 (7-5) against regionally ranked Sasha Nionova and Linnea Skymberg. The other two doubles matches were tight as the Mocs won at No. 2, 8-6, and No. 3, 9-7.
Michaela Mignemi picked up a win in singles play, defeating Carolyn Cureton 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6. Teona Tatishvili came back after dropping the first set to Selin Devrimci 6-2 to win the final two sets 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Nagovitcina also was victorious in singles at No. 2, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
The Sailfish and Mocs were tied 4-4 with one match left on the court but Natalija Popovic was able to knock off PBA’s Taylor Conti in three 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 to give the Mocs the win.
PBA is back in action on April 12 as they make the short trip to Lynn University for a 5 p.m. match.
