LAKELAND, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Southern tried to beat the incoming weather Friday afternoon at Barnett Field on the campus of Florida Southern College, but were only semi-successful as the ‘Fish and Mocs finished just one of their scheduled games for the day. The one game was shortened to 5 and a half innings due to the weather. With the game at it’s official minimum, the Sailfish took a 1-0 win over the Mocs thanks to a solo home run by Victoria Gonzalez
Gonzalez led off the top of the fourth inning Friday afternoon crushing a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the year, picking up her team-leading 25th RBI en route to the 1-0 victory for Palm Beach Atlantic.
The solo home run was all that was needed, as senior Rachel Hill picked up her ninth win on the season, allowing just two hits in five innings of work.
With the win, the Sailfish pick up their 20th on the season, and are now 20-12 on the year. The loss sets the Mocs back to 10-21-1 on the season.
The Sailfish and Mocs will give it one more try tomorrow, Saturday, March 26 to attempt games two and three of these three-game series. With the first pitch schedule for 1 p.m.
