WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The start time for Saturday’s doubleheader between The Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (17-12) and the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles was pushed up two hours each due to the threat of rain at Simpson Field. The move proved to be smart, as the ‘Fish and Eagles completed the first game of the day, with the ‘Fish falling 5-4, and the series finale was called due to weather.
Game One: ERAU 5 PBA 4
Trailing by two runs heading into the bottom of the fifth, the ‘Fish came back to tie the game and take the lead courtesy of a two-RBI triple from Kayla Knight and a RBI double from Loren Kilgore.
The Eagles responded with a run of their own in the top of the sixth to tie the game up for the second time of the game, and they added two more runs on three hits in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead.
With two outs and a runner on second base in the bottom of the seventh, Victoria Gonzalez doubled to right field, bringing the game within a run. The Sailfish were unable to capitalize after the double, and fell 5-4 to the Eagles in the middle game of the series.
The Sailfish managed 10 hits, with Ali French and Theresa Butler being the Sailfish with multiple hits on the day.
Amber Johnson started in the circle for the Sailfish. The senior pitched five innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, and she struck out three. Jana Wagner (Loss, 1-2) pitched two innings of relief Saturday, allowing just two hits and one earned run to score.
Game two was washed out due to the storm that came rolling in in the second inning. The game is not set to be re-scheduled.
