WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic pushed their winning streak to four with a 5-1 victory over Wilmington (Del.) on Saturday evening at Rubin Park. The Sailfish improve to 15-9 while the Wildcats finish their South Florida season-opening trip at 2-10.
Tyler Hawks (1-2) had his best start of the season on the mound for the ‘Fish, picking up his first collegiate win after allowing just four hits in 6.2 scoreless innings. The freshman got off to a rocky start, allowing a leadoff single in the first followed by a hit by pitch. Hawks bounced back to pick off Julian Kurych at second and a pair of ground balls to get out of the inning. The right hander pitched with runners on base throughout the game but got help with nine groundballs to escape without allowing a run.
PBA put up three runs in the fourth inning on just two hits. The ‘Fish were helped by three walks by Wildcat pitchers including a bases-loaded free pass to Jake Summey that scored the first run. Another run scored on a wild pitch as Julian Bilodeau crossed the plate. Sean Visconti collected one of his two hits to plate the third run of the inning.
Wilmington scored in the eighth with two of their seven hits coming in that inning. The Sailfish only collected six hits in the game but were walked eight times and hit once.
The Sailfish are back in action on Tuesday as they hit the road to battle St. Thomas in Miami Gardens. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PBA took two of three against the Bobcats in a weekend series earlier this season at Rubin Park.
