Women's Tennis Narrowly Falls to Point Loma

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 39 Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis team faced a tough task Thursday. After an emotional comeback victory the night before over No. 17 ranked UC San Diego, the ‘Fish had an early morning match against No. 31 ranked Point Loma University. The ‘Fish battled tough Thursday, but fell 5-4 in a four hour and forty-two minute match.
PBA and Point Loma played singles first on the day, and played to a 3-3 tie. Kathi Tesar and Valerie Nagovitcina both faced regionally ranked opponents, and both fell in three sets. Teona Tatishvili won her match 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Taylor Conti, playing No. 4 singles Thursday, also was victorious 6-2, 6-1. Michaela Mignemi picked up the other singles victory for the ‘Fish, as Maja Jovic fell in her singles match.
The Sailfish entered doubles play needing two doubles victories, and were only able to get one, as Tatishvili and Mignemi got a win at No. 3 doubles 8-5. The loss drops the ‘Fish to 6-5 on the season. They wrap up their California trip tomorrow against Azusa Pacific. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Pacific time.
