Women's Tennis Defeats No. 33 Ranked Cal State LA

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 39 ranked Sailfish defeated No. 33 ranked Cal State LA 5-4 on Tuesday, marking the second win in as many days for the ‘Fish in California. The Sailfish improve over the .500 mark on the season, as the win improves them to 5-4. The Eagles drop to 5-6 on the season.
The Sailfish won two of three doubles matches on the afternoon, as Teona Tatishvili and Michaela Mignemi won their match 8-4, along with Valerie Nagovitcina and Maja Jovic, who won 8-5. The Sailfish defeat came from No. 1 doubles, where Kathi Tesar and Taylor Conti fell 8-6.
The singles competition was very evenly matched, and came down to the wire, as the teams split the matches three apiece. Tesar took care of business, easily winning her match 6-2, 6-2. Jovic got back on track after losing singles yesterday, winning her match 7-5, 6-0. Tatishvili, Conti, and Mignemi all lost their singles matches, leaving the match tied 4-4. Nagovitcina was taken to a third set in her deciding match, and delivered in a big way for the Sailfish, winning the decisive third set 6-2.
The Sailfish will again not have much time to rest, as they will face off with No. 17 ranked UC San Diego tomorrow. The match is set to start at 1:30 p.m. local time.
