MARION, Ind.- Playing their second match of the day, this time against North Greenville University, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team improved to 2-0 after the first day of competition on Tuesday afternoon as they cruised to a 5-1 victory.

After defeating Indiana Wesleyan University in their Tuesday opener by a similar 5-1 score, the Sailfish once again went back to work against the Crusaders from North Greenville.

Doubles competition would once again open up play and just like against IWU, PBA was able to take two of three matches to take an early lead. Lina Rubiano and Natalie Aleman once again paired up for the number one doubles combo as they came out ahead by a tally of 8-1.

Montse Ripoll and Katie Livesay hit the courts at doubles number two and responded with a similar result of 8-2 to earn the victory.

Utilizing a special tournament provision that requires that you start your second match from the sixth singles position and work your way up in a measure to award equal playing time to the entire lineup, the Sailfish made things look fairly easy no matter where they started in their lineup.

Katie Livesay got things started with a victory at number six singles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in what turned out to be a very even match. Freshman Kelly Schwartz responded well in her singles tournament debut with a 6-0, 6-4 win over NGU’s Aubrey Sawyer at number five singles while Krishna Domenech went to the wire each of her sets but came out on top with a 7-5, 7-5 win to cap the match.

PBA will continue their march through the NCCAA tennis championships on Wednesday as they wrap up pool play in the morning and move on to the semi-finals by afternoon. With rain scheduled in the forecast, the contest may be forced to move indoors. Stay tuned to PBAsailfish.com for complete recaps and updates of the Sailfish women’s tennis team.
