No. 39 Sailfish Overwhelmed by No. 1 Armstrong State

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 39 Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis was unable to pull the upset on Sunday, falling to the defending national champion and top-ranked Armstrong State Pirates 9-0.

The Sailfish were shutout in doubles action for the first time this season. Teona Tatishvili and Michaela Mignemi put up the best fight at No. 3, falling 8-5 to Alejandra Cisneros and Alice Patch. Maja Jovic had the best result in singles action, going three sets before falling 10-4 in the third. She won the first 6-4 before dropping the second by the same score.

In singles play both Valerie Nagovitcina and Tatishvili saw their perfect starts to the season ended as Nagovitcina fell 6-3, 6-2 to #4 Lena Lutzeier at No. 2 play. Tatishvili fell in straight sets to Diana Stomlega at No. 3. Kathi Tesar was able to take three games in each set against Nicole Fossa Huergo at the top spot but also fell in straight sets.

The Sailfish hit the road on Wednesday to take on No. 4 Barry University in Miami Shores. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
