LAKELAND, Fla.- Showing signs of dominance at different times throughout the season, junior Palm Beach Atlantic University right-hander Buddy Fisher finally put it all together against Southeastern University in the first game of a double-header on Saturday as he helped lead the Sailfish to a commanding 7-0 victory.
Mixing his pitches in and out, Fisher completed the seven inning stint by allowing just five hits and striking out four while walking only one batter.
On the offensive side, the Sailfish did what has been a recipe for success throughout the 2008 season and that is score early as the blue and white score one first inning run while crossing the plate three more times in the second inning. A three spot in the sixth inning gave Fisher some cushion and PBA a big opening victory.
Leadoff hitter Mariano Jimenez got the scoring started with a double to start the game followed up by another double from Nick Norley. Jimenez would come in to score the game’s first run on a RBI groundout from senior Zach Grau.
Freshman catcher Joshua Santos singled to leadoff the Sailfish half of the second inning and eventually came around to score on a run-scoring groundout off the bat of sophomore Scott Urbanek. Jimenez tallied the next RBI hit with a solid single and then followed that up by stealing second, third, and scoring on a passed ball from the Southeastern catcher.
Junior slugger Joaquin Valdes led off the sixth with his ninth homerun of the season to give the Fish their first run of the inning followed up by a run-scoring triple from freshman Jesse Gibbs that plated Santos who had walked earlier in the inning. Urbanek collected another RBI with a sac fly to cap the PBA scoring.
