Simon Hits Two Homers as 'Fish Win 18-3

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Kyle Simon hit a pair of home runs as the Sailfish exploded for 18 runs and 19 hits, defeating Colorado Christian 18-3 on Monday night.
Simon hit a homer in the first, a three-run shot off the scoreboard in left center, and then again went yard in the eighth with a grand slam. The sophomore finished the night with four hits and eight RBIs picking up 11 total bases.
Andrew Calderone blasted his first homer of the year in the fourth picking up a pair of hits for the first time in a single game this season. He drove in two. Sean Visconti collected four hits and scored five times as the junior doubled and tripled in the game.
Peter Rivera drove in a pair of runs in the first with a bases loaded single and finished the game with three hits and three RBIs. The ‘Fish scored six times in the first to take a commanding lead. They scored in six of their eight at-bats including a five spot in the eighth.
Ryan Johnson reached base four times including a pair of hits, scored two times and drove in two. Eight players picked up a hit in the game and 11 scored a run as the ‘Fish scored their highest run total since putting up 20 against New Haven last March.
Eric Russell tossed four innings, striking out five and allowing just two runs, one earned. Casey Kopec (1-0) got the win in relief after tossing two shutout innings. The lefty struck out one. The rest of the bullpen allowed just one hit in three innings and one unearned run.
The Sailfish will make the long bus trip to Delta State for a three-game weekend set against the Statesmen beginning at 3 p.m.
