CLEARWATER, Fla. - Palm Beach Atlantic softball got off to a slow start in the Eckerd College Spring Invitational Tournament Friday afternoon, dropping each of their first two games, falling 4-3 to Shorter in the first game, and 7-2 to Barry in the nightcap.

Game One: Palm Beach Atlantic 3, Shorter 4

Shorter got on the board first scoring in the bottom of the third inning, and the Sailfish would even things up in the top of the fourth when Brianna Skipper earned a walk bringing in Victoria Gonzalez.

The Hawks retaliated with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-1, until the top of the seventh.

Trailing by three and looking for some last inning magic, Brianna Skipper got things going for the ‘Fish singling to center. A few batters later, Ali French would deliver a pinch-hit double to drive in a the pinch runner Kimmi McIntosh to split the Hawk’s lead in half. With Briana Rano back in the game running for French, Victoria Gonzalez would deliver in the clutch, singling down the line to bring the ‘Fish within one.

Unfortunately the rally would come up short before the ‘Fish could tie things up in the seventh, giving the Sailfish their third loss on the year.

Game Two: Palm Beach Atlantic 2, Barry 7
The nightcap opened up as a pitchers duel over the first three innings, as the Sailfish were able to snag the only base hit between both teams in those innings. The fourth inning was a change of pace, as the Buccaneers bats came alive scoring five runs in the top half of the inning.

The ‘Fish got on the board in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of an Ali French double that drove in S.J. Collier. The Bucs struck for two more runs in the top of the seventh extending their lead to 7-1.

PBA got one more run on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Victoria Gonzalez singled down the left field line, driving in Loren Kilgore.

The ‘Fish are now 1-4 on the early season, and are back at it Saturday, Feb. 6 as they take on the University of Tampa and Saint Leo University in day two of the Eckerd College Spring Invitational Tournament.
