Sailfish Take Down FIT for First Time Behind Holmes' 21

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Sailfish snapped a three-game losing streak on Saturday, defeating Florida Tech 64-54 at Rubin Arena. The win is the first for the Sailfish over FIT during the Division II era.
PBA led 23-14 at the end of the first period after breaking open a 10-10 game midway through the quarter. Holmes scored eight of her game-high 21 in the first as Hannah Grim added five. The Panthers cut the margin down to five in the second at 30-25 before the ‘Fish scored four straight buckets to push it out to 13 before taking an 11-point lead into halftime.
Grim led all scorers in the first half with 12 points, connecting on 2-of-4 from long distance. She also pulled in five rebounds in the half and finished with seven. The ‘Fish shot 37.2 percent in the first half while the Panthers made 39.4 percent.
In the third quarter the Panthers made their best run, closing to two at 50-48 late in the period. A fast-break layup by Nina Krstic ended the period for the ‘Fish and started a 9-0 run that pushed the PBA lead to 11 at 59-48. Florida Tech was able to get the deficit under 10 just once the rest of the way at 59-51 on a three-point play by Tiesha Flagler. The ‘Fish responded to score the next five points to push the lead out to 13 at 64-51 with just 1:18 to play and seal the victory.
In addition to Holmes’ 21 points, Grim finished with 14 and Janelle Cannon added 10. Cannon and Holmes both had nine rebounds as Nkiru Anyagaligbo led all players with 13 boards. She also scored eight points.
PBA assisted on 14 of their 26 made field goals with Cannon leading the way with five assists. The senior guard also led the way with four steals as the ‘Fish came away with 13 steals. PBA turned those turnovers into 25 points. Rachael Holehouse added four assists off the bench and also added five rebounds.
The Sailfish will be back in action inside Rubin Arena on Wednesday, taking on Tampa at 5:30 p.m.
