PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- Feeding off the momentum they began earlier in the day with a big victory over Spring Arbor University, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team completed a top-seed sweep on Friday afternoon as they went on to defeat number one seeded Mount Vernon Nazarene University by a score of 7-0 in their second contest.

Looking to do the near impossible, the Sailfish did exactly what they needed to do in their loser’s bracket contests on Friday and that was win. Now positioning themselves in the third-place contest on Saturday, the Fish are now one game away from a chance at competing against Olivet Nazarene University in the NCCAA title game.

After spelling Heather Laird in their first-game of the day in a two-inning relief stint, Sailfish hurler Ashley Jones went back to the pitching circle once again against MVNU and responded with a complete game shutout including a tournament-high 10 strikeouts.

Leading the way on the offensive side was once again the solid play of senior centerfielder Casey Gibson who finished off her third straight game in the tournament with at least two hits by going 3-for-4 against MVNU and scoring two more times.

Chelsea Gravini, Cheryl Stephens, and Holly Elliott also all added in a pair of hits as the Sailfish have once again hit their stride from an offensive standpoint. For the second straight game the Fish pounded out 12 hits in their victory.

The Sailfish didn’t wait around in this contest as they plated two huge first inning runs followed up by two more in the third inning. A three-run fourth inning put the game out of reach as Jones allowed only four hits in the contest.

Now 2-1 in the tournament, PBA will square off against Judson University in the loser’s bracket finale at 12 pm on Saturday. The Fish took a defeat against the seventh-seeded Eagles on Thursday for their only tournament loss.

The winner of Judson-PBA will take on Olivet Nazarene University for the NCCAA National Championship at 2 pm. They must defeat ONU twice to claim the Softball National Championship.
