Sailfish Defeat Pfeiffer at Rollins Invitational

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team defeated Pfeiffer University 44-32 on Monday evening at the Rollins Holliday Invitational. The victory is the second consecutive win for the ‘Fish and improves their record to 3-6.
The first half was a struggle for the Sailfish offense, as a tough Pfeiffer defense limited the ‘Fish to 13 percent (4-30) from the field which included six blocked shots. Ayanna Holmes dominated the post in the half, tallying six points and racking up nine first half rebounds.
The Sailfish defense was equally as impressive in the first half, as they limited Pfeiffer to 21 percent (5-24) shooting and forced nine Falcon turnovers. The Sailfish outrebounded the Falcons 29-17 in the half and took a 19-12 lead into the break.
Pfeiffer cut the Sailfish lead to one possession with 8:33 left in the fourth quarter, but the Sailfish rattled off a 12-0 run to open up a double-digit lead that lasted the remainder of the game.
Holmes finished with a team high 15 points (11-12 FT) and 14 rebounds for a double-double as Nkiru Anyagaligbo added eight points and nine rebounds for the ‘Fish. Hannah Grim and Darsan DeShazier added seven points apiece.
The Sailfish have a quick turnaround, as they return to Warden Arena tomorrow at 6 p.m. to play No. 21 ranked Virginia Union University.
