Sailfish Fall Flat to Bowie State 67-52

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Twenty-four hours after putting up 100 points, the Sailfish came out gassed Sunday afternoon, as they were unable to get the offense going falling 67-52 to Bowie State University in the Rubin Arena, falling to 4-5 on the year.
The Sailfish connected on just 18-of-56 attempts, a season-low 32.1 percent from the field. The ‘Fish however were not drastically out-gunned as the Bulldogs only connected on 38.4 percent.
The opening twenty minutes saw four tie scores and six lead changes en route to a 34-28 advantage for the bulldogs. The Sailfish out-shot the Bulldogs 37 percent to 29.3 percent in the first half, but allowed 18 combined points off turnovers and second chance opportunities, which lead to the Bulldog lead.
Bowie State University would hold it’s lead the duration of the second half, leading by as much as 20 points on three separate occasions. The ‘Fish were out shot in the second half, as the Bulldogs connected on 16-of-32 (50 percent) compared to the Sailfish 8-of-29 (27.6 percent).
The Sailfish were led offensively by Shavanno Cooper’s season-high 20 points, the junior from Freeport, Bahamas also grabbed six rebounds on the afternoon.
The only other ‘Fish to reach double-figures in scoring on the afternoon was West Palm Beach native Bakari Warthen, who finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Bowie State University Bulldogs were led offensively by Julian Livingston’s 15 points, who connected on three of the team’s four three-pointers on the afternoon.
The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s basketball team will be back in action Saturday, December 12 at 4 p.m. as the ‘Fish host defending National Champions Florida Southern College.
