Sailfish Fall to Sharks 80-66

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team fell short against the No. 8 ranked Nova Southeastern University Sharks on Wednesday night by a final score of 80-66. The loss drops the Sailfish to 1-6 on the season while the win improves the Sharks to 7-1.
The Sailfish got off to a good start, as Nina Krstic scored five points in the first five minutes of the game as PBA opened up an 11-7 lead early. Nova Southeastern went on to outscore the ‘Fish 13-2 in the rest of the frame to take a 20-13 lead into the short break.
The second quarter was more of the same as Nova Southeastern put up 23 points and took a 43-29 lead into intermission. The Sailfish shot 28.9 percent from the field in the first half while the Sharks shot an impressive 51.6 percent.
The Sailfish picked the pace up offensively in the third quarter, as they put up 20 points in the frame shooting 50 percent from the field, but unfortunately the Sharks matched the ‘Fish, shooting 50 percent and tallying 20 points in the quarter as well.
The Sailfish made it interesting in the final quarter, as they pulled to within nine with just over seven minutes to go after a Kimmi McIntosh made free throw, but were unable to sustain the run as the Sharks finished the game on a 15-10 run to win 80-66.
Sophomore forward Nkiru Anyagaligbo led the ‘Fish with 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting, while senior Nina Krstic finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Ayanna Holmes also had a good night, as she totaled nine points on 4-of-10 shooting and also added eight rebounds.
The Sailfish will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 5 as they play host to Barry University. The game time has been changed to noon to accommodate the NCAA South Region Volleyball Tournament which is being hosted by PBA.
