Eagles Too Much For Sailfish, PBA Falls 96-82 to Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s basketball team fell to fellow Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle Wednesday night by a final score of 96-82, falling to 1-1 on the young season.
The Sailfish and Eagles exchanged blows in the first half, seeing five ties and six lead changes in the opening twenty minutes. The widest margin the ‘Fish lead by was seven with 4:37 left in the opening half. Milos Kostic and Bakari Warthen lead the way in the first half with nine points a piece, and the Sailfish and Eagles headed into halftime with a 42-41 score in favor of Embry-Riddle.
The Sailfish opened the second half with a Derick Yepes three-pointer to give the Sailfish a 44-42 lead, but it would be the last lead they would see on the evening, as Embry-Riddle regained the lead on a Dillon Graham three-pointer the very next play. The Eagles were able to use the three-point shot to help spread their lead over the Sailfish, as they hit seven from downtown in the second half of play.
Four Sailfish finished the night with double-digit scoring figures, and PBA was lead offensively by Bakari Warthen’s 19 points and six rebounds. Derick Yepes and Milos Kostic scored 13 points a piece, and Shavanno Cooper added 12 points of his own.
The ‘Fish shot 43 percent on the night, knocking down 28 of 65 attempts from the field, while also hitting seven from downtown. The Sailfish were outshot from the charity stripe, only knocking down 61 percent (19-31) compared to the Eagles’ 83 percent.
Embry Riddle saw six players reach the double digit scoring mark, and were lead on the night by Dillon Graham’s 26 points.
The Sailfish are back in action Saturday afternoon, Nov. 21, as they host Eckerd College in the Rubin Arena starting at 4 p.m.
