Sailfish Fall in Overtime to Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Hannah Grim poured in 23 points for the Sailfish but it wasn’t enough on Wednesday night as Palm Beach Atlantic fell in overtime to Embry-Riddle, 62-56.

The ‘Fish (0-3) had a three-pointer miss in the late moments of overtime that would have tied the game but Darsan DeShazier's attempt was off the mark. The Eagles (2-0) made a pair of free throws down the stretch to put it out of reach.

Grim put up a season-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting and hit 8-of-10 from the free throw line. The sophomore also pulled in five rebounds as the ‘Fish outrebounded Embry-Riddle 49-40. She also collected five steals in the contest. Ayanna Holmes pulled down a team-high nine boards to go along with nine points.

As a team the Sailfish shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor and made just 2-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc. The Eagles shot just 31.7 percent from the floor (19-60) and connected on only 4-of-23 from long distance, but made 25 trips to the charity stripe as opposed to 17 for the Sailfish. Embry-Riddle made 19 of their 25 attempts as the ‘Fish converted 12-of-17.

The Sailfish pulled down 18 offensive rebounds but struggled to convert those into points with just 14 second chance points. PBA forced 28 turnovers from the Eagles and turned those into 18 points but just two fast break points.

Kimmi McIntosh added six points and five rebounds before fouling out. Nkiru Anyagaligbo pulled down seven rebounds to go along with five points. Nina Krstic added eight boards including three on the offensive glass.

The Sailfish will welcome Eckerd College to Rubin Arena on Saturday at 2 p.m. for their home opener.
