BOCA RATON, Fla.- Meeting for the fourth time this season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University and Lynn University baseball teams once again battled on the diamond on Tuesday afternoon with the Fighting Knights coming away with a 9-1 victory over the Sailfish.
Coming off a sweep of Southeastern University this past Saturday, PBA looked to even up their season series with their Palm Beach County rivals, Lynn University. That wouldn’t be the case on this day however as the Knights plated a single run in the first and third inning before erupting for four more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Freshman hurler Taylor McBath went to the rubber for head coach Rob Avila against the Knights and unfortunately struggled against the previously nationally ranked Lynn squad. McBath was tagged for seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings of work while walking three and striking out none.
Fellow freshman right-handers Brett Hammann and Billy Schmidt came on to finish out the contest with Schmidt once again providing a solid showing with a pair of scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
The Sailfish lone run of the game came via a seventh inning solo homerun from senior slugger Zach Grau. Joining Grau in the mult-hit column for PBA was sophomore centerfielder Scott Urbanek who finished the contest 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Now 31-15 on the season, Lynn took three of four against PBA this season with the lone Sailfish victory coming back on February 19th when freshman Peter Rodriguez led the Fish with a solid outing from the mound.
PBA will take the remainder of the week off until Friday, April 25th when the Fish travel to Webber International for a 6 pm showdown in Babson Park, Florida.
