Palm Beach Atlantic to Host 2008 NCCAA Softball Championship, April 24th-26th

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- With regional competition complete and the visiting teams beginning to make their preparations to head to south Florida, the excitement continues to build for the upcoming 2008 National Christian College Athletic Association Softball Championship that is scheduled to take place this week.
Previously played the past few years in Indiana, the seven teams embarking upon Palm Beach County will certainly welcome the warm Florida climate as well as a chance to compete for the NCCAA National Championship.
This year’s field includes teams from six different states including five teams currently ranked in the top-ten of the NCCAA rankings.
Mount Vernon Nazarene University out of Mount Vernon, Ohio highlights this year’s group of teams as they claimed the NCCAA East Region title by winning the best of three-series with Geneva College (Pa.) on Saturday. Currently sitting at 19-13 on the season, the Cougars will hold the #1-seed as well as a first-round bye in the tournament seeding.
Following MVNU will be the Mid-West Region champion Spring Arbor University Cougars as they hold the number two seed after defeating both Indiana Wesleyan University and Cedarville University for the right to go to the National Tournament.
Mid-Continent University makes their second consecutive trip to the NCCAA National Tournament as they defeated Oakland City University on Saturday in a marathon three-game series for the Mid-East region title. They will hold the number three seed to start the tourney on Thursday.
Finishing runner-up in the North Central region, Olivet Nazarene University with a stellar 38-6 record sits in at number four followed up closely by Central Baptist College of Conway, Arkansas at number five.
Palm Beach Atlantic University claims the number six seed in the tournament as they enter with a 29-22 record under second-year head coach Kimmy Bloemers. The Sailfish open up the tournament with a first-round game against Judson University who has established themselves as the seventh and final squad, with a 4 pm start time on Thursday.
The tournament will be played at the Lake Catherine Sportsplex in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
