WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer team honored their nine seniors Friday night the only way they truly knew how to, by winning, and winning big. The nation’s top scoring offense put on a scoring clinic as the Sailfish vanquished the Gyrenes by a final score of 9-0, advancing to 14-1-1 on the season. Sophomore Lucas DaSilva lead the way offensively for the ‘Fish, who picked up seven points on the night, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist.
Senior Jermaine Metz opened the floodgates in the 12th minute when he scored off a deflected shot by fellow senior Juan Jose Morales. The goal was Metz’ seventh on the year, but wouldn't be his final of the night.
Eddy Milien finished a shot inside the box in the 22nd minute off the passes from Tom Gavin and Lucas Coutinho, which put the Sailfish up 2-0 early on.
Lucas DaSilva scored an unassisted goal in the 38th minute, and also scored on an assisted goal from Juan Pablo Puelma in the 41st minute to put the Sailfish up 4-0.
The final goal of the first half would come off the foot of Phill Cardoso, as his scored in the 42nd minute off the pass from DaSilva.
At half time, the Sailfish took a few minutes out of their normal routine to honor the careers of nine Sailfish players, Steeven Raymont, Tom Gavin, Juan Jose Morales, Jermaine Metz, Steven Fiema, Nicolas Coburn, Rodrigo Vargas, Ben Vogeney, and Eddy Milien.
The offensive show continued in the second half, as Juan Jose Morales and Jermaine Metz teamed up to score the sixth and seventh goals on the evening in the 61st and 62nd minutes of the game. Morales scored in the 61st off the pass from Metz, and a minute later Morales returned the favor back to Metz. Both goals were very similar as the two just split the Gyrene defenders and beat the keeper.
Cleef Desir picked up his fifth goal on the year in the 69th minute as he scored off the pass from Oscar Farias to extend the lead to 8-0, which tied the ‘Fish season high mark set back on Sept. 19 when the ‘Fish beat Florida Southern 8-0.
The ninth and final goal came via penalty kick from Lucas DaSilva, which completed the hat trick for DaSilva, and gave him his 16th goal on the season.
To no surprise in a 9-0 win, the Sailfish out shot the Gyrenes 33-2. The Sailfish were pretty even with their shot count, as the ‘Fish took 16 shots in the first half, and 17 in the second half. The Gyrenes got both of their shots off in the first half, and were held without a shot in the closing half.
Goalkeeper Steeven Raymont picked up one save as he advances to 14-1-1 on the year.
The Sailfish will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 7, as they take on Southern Wesleyan University in their first game of the Classic on the Hill in Mobile, Ala.
