WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball has released their 2016 spring schedule as announced by head coach Kent Bottenfield. The Sailfish are scheduled to play 50 times with 26 coming at Rubin Park.
The season will begin on Jan. 29 in Daytona Beach as the Sailfish open a three-game weekend set with fellow Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle. The Sailfish will host Lynn University at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter on Feb. 2 with the following weekend – Feb. 5-6 – serving as the home opener at Rubin Park with the Tigers of West Alabama making a trip to West Palm Beach.
PBA will play each team in the Sunshine State Conference in a three-game weekend series, battling the other 10 teams in the league in weekend sets. The Sailfish will step outside of conference series four times, first with the home opener against West Alabama. The next weekend the ‘Fish will be on the road to Delta State (Feb. 12-13) before returning home for a series against St. Thomas Feb. 19-20. PBA will also once again host multiple games during spring break week, playing against American International in a doubleheader March 11 and then a single game against Wilmington on March 12.
The Sailfish will play four times on Monday and four times on Tuesday during the midweek with only two of those matchups coming at Rubin Park. The ‘Fish will host Colorado Christian on Feb. 8 and Florida Tech on April 4 but will travel to Barry (twice), Nova Southeastern (twice) and St. Thomas.
The weekend series with Barry has been pushed up from Friday-Saturday to Thursday-Friday (March 24-25) to accommodate the Easter weekend. That series will be a single game on Thursday with a doubleheader on Friday.
The regular season will come to a close May 6-7 with a home series against Rollins.
