MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team played the No. 7 ranked Barry University Buccaneers even for the first half Saturday night, but the Fish’s bid to spoil Barry’s senior night ended with the Bucs scoring three second half goals, winning 4-1.
The loss drops the Sailfish to 4-9-1, while the victory improves Barry’s Sunshine State Conference leading record to 11-2-1.
Barry wouldn’t waste any time to get on the board, as senior Shanice Robe scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute. PBA’s defense played solid the rest of the first half as the Bucs only got two more shots on goal, both of which were stopped by sophomore goalkeeper Isabelle Granlund.
The score remained 1-0 until the 40th minute, as sophomore Kayla Fisher tied the game at one goal apiece with a long chip that found its way to the back of the net. The goal was the second of the season for the Jupiter, Fla. native.
The second half belonged to Barry, as the Bucs scored three unanswered goals, while only allowing two Sailfish shots on goal, coming from Nicole Shaffer and Haily Johnson.
The Sailfish will have almost two weeks off before their next match, which will be at the Spring Hill University Classic on the Hill in Mobile, Ala. against Oklahoma Baptist University at 3 p.m. CST.
