LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Georgia Gwinnett College to compete in the Grizzly open last weekend. The team would not disappoint, as they would bring home two first place finishes out of a large field for the weekend.

In the A draw for women’s singles, freshman Kathi Tesar would impress once again, as she defeated four opponents, not losing a set along the way, to clinch the title for the Sailfish. Tesar cruised through her first three matches before being tested in the final, beating Arantxia Wijngaarde 7-6, 6-1.

In women’s doubles, Tesar would team with sophomore Michaela Mignemi, and they would win five consecutive matches to win the championship in the doubles flight. They would defeat the team of Lacklova/Tekelova in the finals 6-3, 6-2.

In the men’s singles A draw, Sailfish senior Nicolas Uryson would defeat David Omsky 6-3, 6-2 before eventually losing in the round of 32 to Giles Hussey 6-2, 6-4.

Both teams will be off for a week before traveling to Daytona Beach, Fla. to play in the Juan Varon Memorial Tournament on Oct. 30-31.
