WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – On a night designed to honor Palm Beach Atlantic’s 2015 senior class, senior Carson Mitchell would score her first two goals of the season, but the Sailfish would fall to No. 16 ranked Rollins College, by a score of 4-2.
The loss drops Palm Beach Atlantic to 4-7-1 on the season, as the win improves the Tars to 9-3-0, including a perfect 4-0 on the road.
The first half was all Rollins, as the Tars would collect 12 shots, netting two of them past sailfish keeper Isabelle Granlund who finished the night with eight saves. PBA would only be able to manage six shots of their own in the half.
Sailfish seniors Carson Mitchell, M.E. Stewart, Haily Johnson, Kasey Wyer, and Lesslee Hernandez were honored at halftime, and despite missing the offensive threat of Wyer on the field due to injury, the Sailfish came out of halftime firing and gave it all they had in the second half.
Mitchell would bring the ‘Fish within a goal of tying the game in the 53rd minute, as she beat the Tar goalkeeper on a one-on-one after a nice pass from freshman Jaime Montgomery. The goal was Mitchell’s first of the season, and seventh of her Sailfish career.
Two more Rollins goals would put the match out of reach for the ‘Fish, but Palm Beach Atlantic would score a late goal as M.E. Stewart would cross a beautiful ball into the box, and Mitchell would finish once again with a brilliant header that found the back of the net in the 84th minute.
With the home schedule being complete, Palm Beach Atlantic will hit the road next Wednesday, Oct. 21 as they will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on fellow Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 7 p.m.
