WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team played another close game on Wednesday night, but fell short in overtime to Saint Leo University by a score of 2-1.
The first half would be a common sight for Sailfish fans, as the ‘Fish would play great defense, but wouldn’t be able to put anything together on offense. Goalkeeper Isabelle Granlund made three saves in the first half to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
The game would stay scoreless well into the second half, with the first goal coming in the 71st minute, as Lions junior Arielle Kabangu would break the scoreless tie with her seventh goal of the season.
The Sailfish wouldn’t waste any time in answering, as senior M.E. Stewart played a nice ball in the box for Elyse Mueller, who would net her first goal of the season. The goal came less than two minutes after Kabangu’s and would be the final score of regulation.
The Lions would get the game-winner three minutes into overtime, as Selena Jaimes would score on a free kick from just outside the box.
The Sailfish will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10th as they will travel to St. Petersburg to take on Eckerd College. The ‘Fish will try to avenge an early season loss to Eckerd as they fell in overtime by a final score of 3-2. PBA will be back home on Wednesday, Oct. 14 for Senior Day against Rollins College at 7 p.m.
