LAKELAND, Fla.- Taking on a team who hadn’t allowed a single run yet this season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team rebounded from a heart-breaking 1-0 loss in 10 innings in game one to Florida Southern College by defeating the #4-ranked Moccasins in impressive fashion in the night-cap by a final score of 3-2.
Game one featured the dominating right-arms of PBA sophomore Ashley Jones (Jensen Beach, Fla.) and FSC junior Brittany Minton. Jones ended as the tough luck loser (2-1) as Angela Williams came home to score in the bottom of the 10th inning on a sacrifice fly by freshman catcher Tori Mosley.
Ranked number four in the preseason NCAA national polls, FSC entered tonight’s double-header at 4-0, while posting shutouts in each of their four contests.
Minton earned the shutout in game one against the Fish as she tossed eight innings while capturing 11 strikeouts and allowing only four hits. Jones proved to be nearly as impressive as the Jensen Beach High School product allowed only five hits while striking out seven.
Offensively the Fish were held mostly stagnate in game one with Casey Gibson, Holly Elliot, Melissa Wallach, and Sam Russo each collecting a single.
