The ‘Fish, who are currently ranked 5th in the nation fell early as the Sharks took a 2-0 lead in the first half; as NSU’s Jacob Sumaljag scored in the 16th minute and Nate Bladecki scored in the 29th.
Even though the Sailfish had several opportunities to score in the first half, the ‘Fish were unable to score which is the first time all season they were kept from the net during a 45 minute period.
It didn’t take long for the ‘Fish to recuperate as Jermaine Metz scored back to back goals in the 48th and 49th minutes to tie the match. His first goal was unassisted and the second was from Lucas Coutinho. The two goals, which were 31 seconds apart, were almost identical as Metz stormed past the Sharks defense and was able to beat the keeper one on one.
Senior Tom Gavin picked up his second goal in as many games when he scored in the 57th minute on a penalty kick. Eighty seconds later Lucas Coutinho joined the second half scoring brigade, picking up his sixth goal on the year, from the assist by Cameron Roberts.
The NSU Sharks were only able to get off six shots on the evening, but unfortunately for senior Goalkeeper Steeven Raymont, the first two of them found the net. Raymont (9-0-1) did pick up a save in the second half, which brings him to 20 on the year.
The Sailfish hit the road Wednesday night as they travel up to take on Saint Leo University in a very important South Region matchup. The ‘Fish will be back at the Rinker Athletic Campus Saturday, Oct. 10, as they host the Eckerd College Tritons at 7 pm.
