Tennis Finishes with Strong Showing at Panther Invitational

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic tennis teams opened up their Fall seasons this weekend, with both the men’s and women’s teams posting strong results in the Panther Tennis Invitational. The flighted event included strong competition with three schools from the Sunshine State Conference competing.
On the women’s side of the tournament, Kathi Tesar took home 1st place in the top flight, beating Kristen Mee from the University of Tampa (6-1, 6-1) in the finals. Tesar only lost one set on the weekend in her three matches. Maja Jovic finished 3rd in the second flight, and Yoanna Peshev and Julia Cusumano both finished 4th in their respective flights.
In the doubles portion of the tournament, the doubles team of Kathi Tesar/Valerie Nagovitcina finished 3rd in the top doubles flight, and the teams of Yoanna Peshev/Maja Jovic and Julia Cusumano/Michaela Mignemi both finished 4th in their flights.
The Sailfish men’s tennis team also had a strong showing in Melbourne, as the ‘Fish took home 1st place in three of the six singles flights, as well as one doubles flight. Nicholas Uryson won the top flight with a 3-0 record, not losing a set all weekend. Thomas Salmon and Pietro de Silva followed suit, winning the second and fourth flights respectively. Neither one lost a set in the singles competition all weekend. Nicholas Battistini and Fernando Arroyo both finished 2nd in their flights, finishing with a 2-1 record and Andre Nunez finished third in his flight.
PBA finished with a 1st place and two 2nd place doubles teams. The doubles team of Arroyo/Nunez finished 1st and the teams of Uryson/Battastini and Salmon/de Silva both placed second in their flights.
Both teams will travel to Pensacola, Fla. this weekend to participate in the ITA South Regional Tournament.
