The defending national champion Knights came out strong taking an early 2-0 lead, scoring in the 6th and 8th minutes. The Knights scored the initial goal on a set piece about 20 yards out, and their second goal came off the foot of Division II’s top goal scorer Chris Hellmann after a defensive miscue from the ‘Fish.
After a lighting delay causing a pause in the action in the 35th minute, the Sailfish came back out to the pitch with a different mindset and determination. Two minutes into the game being resumed, Lucas Coutinho scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit in half.
With time winding down the ‘Fish battled harder and harder looking for the equalizer, getting shot off after shot until in the 72nd minute Eddy Milien scored his first goal of the year off a beautiful pass from Jermaine Metz inside the box that split the Fighting Knight defense. The final 18 minutes of regulation saw shots by both offenses, but neither were able to capitalize on the situation.
The Sailfish and Knights went into overtime with momentum heavily favoring the ‘Fish. The first overtime period ended without a goal and ended just as the clock struck 10 pm, and due to local rules concerning the lights being on too late at Bobby Campbell Stadium, the game was ended in a 2-2 draw after the first OT.
The ‘Fish are back in action Saturday night as they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to take on Florida Southern College. Palm Beach Atlantic will be back at the Rinker Athletic Campus next Saturday, the 26th as the ‘Fish host The University of Tampa.
